An update from S04 following the events of Wednesday morning

The players and backroom staff of FC Schalke 04 returned to the first-team performance centre on Friday (23/4) for the first time since the horrific events that took place last Wednesday (21/4). On behalf of the club, Peter Knäbel, board member for sport and communication, apologised to all those affected and repeated the offer to provide the players and staff with all the support needed to cope with the incident.

It was agreed that the team will resume training on Monday (26/4). FC Schalke 04 have already initiated measures to ensure the safety and security of the players and staff. The club will also be filing a police report and will continue to push for an internal inquiry into the incident, while also assisting the authorities with their investigation.

FC Schalke 04 would like to reiterate that the club will not accept any instances where the health and safety of its employees are threatened or endangered. A line was crossed on Wednesday morning, and these events have deeply shaken the club. Crises, disappointments and relegation are all painful experiences, but they are part of the sport. Many fans and members have already made statements in support of this stance, which applies to the entire Schalke family: violence is never justified, neither in sport, nor in society.
