Edin Džeko signs new Schalke deal and keeps number 10 shirt

Edin Džeko will be back in the Bundesliga in his 23rd season of professional football after agreeing to remain at FC Schalke 04 for the coming campaign. Following a successful second half of the season with the Royal Blues, the Bosnia and Herzegovina captain has signed a new one-year contract. Džeko will join the team for training on Tuesday (4/8). He represented Bosnia and Herzegovina at his second World Cup this summer, having previously featured at the tournament in 2014.

After joining from Fiorentina in January, Edin Džeko played a key role in Schalke’s promotion to the Bundesliga. He scored six goals and provided three assists in 11 appearances.

“Edin brought something special to Schalke 04 during his first four and a half months at the club. He was a key player and a fan favourite, while his personality meant he always set an example both on and off the pitch. Our conversations over the past few weeks made it clear that Edin is still as hungry as ever. We therefore believe that he can help us in the Bundesliga too. Edin is staying at Schalke, which is fantastic news,” said Youri Mulder, director of professional football at FC Schalke 04.
