Luca Podlech joins Aalesunds FK on loan

Luca Podlech has joined Norwegian top-flight side Aalesunds FK on loan until 31st December 2026. The Eliteserien season follows the calendar year, running from March to December.

The 21-year-old Gelsenkirchen native came through the Knappenschmiede youth academy and has been part of Schalke’s first-team squad since 2024. The 6ft 7in goalkeeper has gained competitive experience with the Royal Blues’ U23s, making 37 appearances in the fourth tier over the past two years.

“Luca recently spent several days training with Aalesunds FK, where he was able to show head coach Kjetil Rekdal what he can do and get to know both the club and the city. Regular football is now crucial for the next stage of Luca’s development. The Norwegian Eliteserien is an attractive league that will test him and help him mature as a player. We will, of course, follow his progress closely and remain in regular contact throughout the loan,” said Youri Mulder, Schalke’s director of professional football.
