Taylan Bulut signs a contract extension

Germany youth international Taylan Bulut has extended his contract until 30th June 2029. His existing deal was set to run until 2026. The 19-year-old, who is eligible to play for the club’s U19s until the end of the current season, has broken into the first team in 2024/25. The win over Karlsruher SC (16/2) was the right-back’s 19th game already for the first team.

“The way Taylan has developed has been really impressive. With his calmness, athleticism and passing accuracy, he’s immediately settled into life in the second division thanks to his time in the Knappenschmiede. He regularly covers lots of ground, possesses lots of pace and wins lots of duels,” said Youri Mulder, director of professional football at FC Schalke 04. “He also has the desire to want to keep on improving all areas of his game and we want to support him as best we can with that.”

“After spending four years in our academy, Taylan has been really impressive in the first team since last summer. I would like to thank all academy coaches that have worked with him over the years,” said Ben Manga, director for squad planning, scouting and the Knappenschmiede. “Having handed Max Grüger, Mika Khadr, Luca Podlech, Ayman Gulasi and Zaid Tchibara new deals in recent weeks, we’re now pleased that Taylan has chosen to sign a new contract as well.”

“I’m very thankful to have been able to make the transition to the first team at Schalke, after several important years with the Knappenschmiede,” Bulut said. “I can feel the trust that the club’s management and coaches have in me. I want to repay them with strong performances and by continuing to improve.”

Bulut was born in Eschweiler in 2006 and played for Germania Dürwiß from 2010 to 2013. He then spent seven years at Bayer 04 Leverkusen, before joining Schalke’s U15s. The right-back won the U17 Bundesliga with the club in 2022 and was part of the Germany U17s team that won the European Championship a year later. Bulut has featured in 29 matches at youth level for Germany to date.
