Frank Kramer’s first home game as head coach of Schalke was an eventful one. Alongside Gladbach boss Daniel Farke, he spoke to the media after the game. S04 strikers Marius Bülter and Simon Terodde also gave their thoughts on the 2-2 draw.

Last-minute Bülter penalty earns S04 a draw against Gladbach

62,271 supporters were in attendance for FC Schalke 04’s first home game of the season against Borussia Mönchengladbach. Marius Bülter rescued a point for S04 with his penalty in injury time after the away team came from 1-0 down to lead 2-1. Rodrigo Zalazar opened the scoring with a stunning strike in the first half for the Royal Blues.

Frank Kramer: Energy, passion and a clear plan

Bundesliga football is finally back at the VELTINS-Arena! 455 days after FC Schalke 04’s last home game in the top flight, the Royal Blues will host Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday (13/8) at 18:30 CEST in front of a sold-out stadium. “We’re really excited. The atmosphere will be very special,” said Frank Kramer. “5,000 Schalke fans were in the ground in Cologne and got behind us, now we’ll have 60,000 of them.”

Following charges raised by the German Football Association (DFB)’s control body regarding rough play against an opponent, the DFB’s Sports Court has handed Dominick Drexler a suspension from the next two competitive domestic fixtures.

Marius Bülter: The fans are behind us

Marius Bülter’s header in the 76th minute gave his side hope of rescuing a point against Köln on Sunday. Shortly afterwards, however, FC scored again and went on to win 3-1 in the sold-out RheinEnergieSTADION. According to Bülter, It was a bitter ending to a game which didn’t quite go his side’s way.

FC Schalke 04 suffered a 3-1 defeat away to 1. FC Köln on the opening matchday of the new Bundesliga season on Sunday (7/8). There were several big decisions made by VAR, including Dominick Drexler’s red card with just over an hour played.

Having already featured in 58 Bundesliga games for Arminia Bielefeld, Cedric Brunner is eyeing up his first league appearance in Royal Blue in Cologne on Sunday (7/8). “We’re excited and so are the fans – we’re ready to get underway,” said the right-back. Brunner made his Schalke debut in the cup game against Bremer SV before being taken off in the 73rd minute.

Frank Kramer: It’s about time we got underway!

After a year away, FC Schalke 04 are set to make their return to the Bundesliga on Sunday (7/8, 17:30 CEST). Frank Kramer’s side will be coming up against 1. FC Köln, as they look to get the season off to a successful start. “We’re really looking forward to finally getting underway, after such a long pre-season,” said the head coach.

DFL schedules the first seven matchdays

The DFL announced the exact dates and times for matchdays 1-7 on Friday (1/7). The Revierderby in Dortmund will be played on a Saturday at 15:30 CEST.

Sebastian Polter: I’ll leave it all out on the pitch for this club

Around 1,000 fans were there to watch Schalke’s first training session of pre-season on Wednesday (22/6) at the Parkstadion. Sebastian Polter, who joined S04 from VfL Bochum just a few days prior, was part of the training group and is excited for his time with his new club.
