After over three months without a competitive fixture, the anticipation for the season opener for the Royal Blues was understandably large. Schalke win first competitive game of 2018/19 - beat Schweinfurt 2-0

One match, one win. That’s the record for Schalke so far this season after a successful DFB-Pokal first round match away against FC Schweinfurt 05. Goals in either half – one from Nabil Bentaleb from the spot and an own goal from a Matija Nastasic header – were enough to see off the spirited Regionalliga side 2-0 in front of 15,000 on Friday night.

Mark Uth: Finally time for competitive football

Three appearances in the DFB-Pokal, three goal involvements. If Mark Uth had it his way, this personal success story will continue on Friday (17.8) against 1. FC Schweinfurt 05 in the first round of the DFB-Pokal. “That wouldn’t be bad, would it?” Uth joked. However for new signing Uth, not underestimating the opposition is more important than scoring a goal himself.

Domenico Tedesco: Massive test in our own back yard

All Königsblauen enjoy reminiscing about the last game of last season against Eintracht Frankfurt, where players and fans alike celebrated finishing runners-up in the VELTINS-Arena. After a long 91 day break, die Knappen return to their home ground on Saturday at 16:00 (CEST) to take on Fiorentina. When the game kicks off, a player who took part in those same celebrations in May could be playing on the opposing team.
