4-2 victory for Nikola Katic and Bosnia and Herzegovina
Nikola Katic celebrated a 4-2 win against Romania with Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday evening (28/9). The centre-back played the full 90 minutes. Head coach Sergej Barbarez’s side now turn their attention to Friday’s meeting with Group B4 leaders Sweden.
For the second straight game, Katic started and featured for the full 90 minutes, after previously doing so in a 0-0 draw against Poland. Armin Gigovic (12’) and Tarik Muharemovic (19’) put Bosnia ahead early on, before Daniel Birligea cut the deficit for Romania (28’). Haris Tabakovic then added a third shortly before the break (40’), with Ermin Mahmic making it 4-1 in the 55th minute. Alexandru Cicaldau netted a second for the hosts in the 62nd minute, but they were unable to turn the game around.
Bosnia currently find themselves in second place in their group with four points, two behind Sweden who have won both their opening two fixtures (2-1 vs. Romania, 3-1 vs. Poland). They have a chance to overtake the Scandinavians on Friday in Zenica (20:45 CEST). It will also mark Edin Džeko’s final match for his country, with the 40-year-old having not featured in their first two matches this international break. After scoring 73 times in 151 caps, the striker is set to retire from international football.
