Benedikt Höwedes announces his retirement

23:35 CEST on 13th July 2014 in the Maracana in Brazil was a special, special moment for then-Schalke player Benedikt Höwedes. The defender, who was the only outfielder to play in all seven matches in the tournament, had just become a World Cup winner with Germany after defeating Argentina in 1-0 in the final.

FC Schalke 04 and kit manufacturer Umbro have unveiled the Royal Blues’ new kits ahead of the 2020/21 season. The home, away and third shirts are now available to purchase both online at store.schalke04.de and in all fan shops.

Schalke to face VfL Bochum in friendly

In preparation for the 2020/21 season, FC Schalke 04 have arranged another preseason friendly. In addition to facing second-division side VfL Osnabrück (9th August) and third-division side Viktoria Köln (2nd September), the Royal Blues will play VfL Bochum 1848. S04 will take part in eight friendlies this preseason, with three confirmed already.

Preseason programme: Gelsenkirchen, Herzlake and Austria

No pre-season training camp in Mittersill

Unlike previous years, FC Schalke 04 will not be taking part in pre-season training camp in Mittersill, Austria, ahead of the 2020/21 season. The team had announced its training camp would take place from 21st to 29th August, which conflicts with other private bookings at the Hotel Schloss Mittersill. The hotel lacks the capacity to accommodate all these requests, which the club has taken into account.
