Matthew Hoppe returned to training on Tuesday 17th August, initially taking part in an individual session with fitness and recovery coach Michael Schwerhoff. The 20-year-old will return to team training soon. The striker’s return to the team following his participation in the CONCACAF Gold Cup was delayed because of a recent bout of stomach flu.

Levent Mercan joins Fatih Karagümrük Spor

Schalke have continued to rebuild their squad, with Levent Mercan now departing to Fatih Karagümrük Spor. The Turkish first-division side have signed him on loan until the end of the season, while they also have an option to buy the 20-year-old midfielder. Winger Rabbi Matondo has joined Cercle Brugge on loan for the 2021/22 season. The Belgian side have also agreed an option to buy the Welsh international. His contract at Schalke runs until 30th June 2023.

Schalke 04 and Ralf Fährmann agree new contract terms

The Royal Blues have come to an agreement with goalkeeper Ralf Fährmann to extend his current contract, which was due to run until 2023. Goalkeeper Fährmann agreed to a restructuring of his wages, and the newly agreed contract will now run until the end of the 2024/2025 season.

FC Schalke 04 have signed Rodrigo Zalazar on a season-long loan from Eintracht Frankfurt, with the option to sign him on a permanent deal running until 2025/26. The option is not dependent upon which division the club is competing in. Zalazar will wear the No.10 shirt for the Royal Blues.

Ralf Fährmann back in team training

After spending two weeks in quarantine, Ralf Fährmann has returned to team training. The goalkeeper tested positive for coronavirus on 19 July and was therefore unable to help Schalke in the first two league games of the season against Hamburger SV and Holstein Kiel.
