S04 to face Wolfsburg in DFB-Pokal quarters
Sunday’s draw for the quarterfinals of the DFB-Pokal, made by former Germany U21s coach Horst Hrubesch and ex-Germany handball international Oliver Roggisch, has pitted FC Schalke 04 against VfL Wolfsburg.
The ties for the last eight will take place on 6th and 7th February. The schedule is yet to be confirmed.
The first DFB-Pokal meeting between the two sides came in 1970/71. The Royal Blues were taken to a first-round replay by the Wolves back then, but went through courtesy of a 3-1 penalty-shootout win. The first meeting had finished 2-2, while it was 1-1 at the end of the replay.
Another match-up followed in the 2007/08 campaign. This one also went to spot-kicks, although it was Wolfsburg were held their nerve in the shootout, winning 5-3 on penalties following a 1-1 draw after extra time.
