DFB-Pokal game against Schweinfurt to be played at the VELTINS-Arena

1. FC Schweinfurt and FC Schalke 04 have agreed to play the DFB-Pokal first-round tie at the VELTINS-Arena on Sunday (13/9, 15:30 CEST). The DFB have therefore granted Schweinfurt’s request to move the venue.

Schweinfurt, who qualified for the DFB-Pokal as Bavaria’s best amateur side, are not the only side to give up their right to play at home in the first round. Bayern (vs. 1. FC Düren), Borussia Mönchengladbach (vs. FC Oberneuland), Bayer Leverkusen (vs. Eintracht Norderstedt), FC Augsburg (vs. MTV Eintracht Celle) and 1. FC Köln (vs. VSG Altglienicke) are just some of the sides who will also play at home despite being the professional side.

So many teams have requested to switch the ties because of the corona regulations, hygiene concept and organisation that would need to be made for TV. The smaller clubs in the DFB-Pokal can often only fulfil part of the regulations in their home stadiums. The VELTINS-Arena already hosted games in compliance with the DFL and DFB’s guidelines in 2019/20. “After careful consideration, switching the game to Gelsenkirchen was a sensible move,” explained Schweinfurt’s CEO Markus Wolf.
