DFB sets new date for Schalke’s Pokal tie

After the DFB-Pokal match between FC Schalke 04 and a representative of the Bavarian Football Association (BFV) was postponed, a new date has now been set.

DFB-Pokal

As announced by the DFB on Thursday (08/10), the match will now take place on either 3rd or 4th November, kicking off at 16:30 CET. The exact date will be set after communication from the BFV to confirm Schalke’s opponent.

The original fixture between Schalke and 1. FC Schweinfurt 05 was scheduled for 13th September, but was postponed at short notice after Türkgücü München opposed the BFV’s decision to enter Schweinfurt into the competition and launched a succesful appeal with the local court in Munich.

The DFB took the decision to postpone the match while waiting for the court to reach a final verdict. Türkgücü München’s complaint was based on the fact that the place in the DFB-Pokal first round is awarded to the top amateur team from the state of Bavaria; the BFV gave this place to Schweinfurt, then leading the Bavarian Regionalliga.

The league has been interrupted by the coronavirus pandemic and is due to continue from 26th September. Türkgücü München had led the table prior to the break and were promoted to the 3. Liga despite the season not having yet been concluded, thus making them ineligible to compete in the Pokal as the top Bavarian amateur side. Following their promotion, the BFV decided to remove all 2019/20 Türkgücü München results from the record books.
