Alexander Nübel: In situations like that, football comes second

Alexander Nübel spoke on Monday (16/12) in an interview with Schalke TV about his foul on Mijat Gacinovic in the Bundesliga game against Eintracht Frankfurt. The Royal Blues goalkeeper expressed regret for the high tackle in the 66th minute, when he injured his opponent and was dismissed by referee Felix Zwayer.

Nübel explained that he not only asked apologised to Gacinovic on the pitch, but also by phone after the game. Gacinovic accepted the apology of the Schalke goalkeeper. Nübel said that he just misjudged the situation which led to the challenge but what’s important now is the leath of the player.

Markus Schubert will now take the reins in goal for the Royal Blues. „I keep my fingers crossed for him on Wednesday,“ said Nübel, speaking about the away game at VfL Wolfsburg (18/12, 8:30 CET). Nübel will now provide his teammate with any advice while he’s suspended, but also emphasised that he is happy that the Royal Blues have such strength in depth to cover for him.
