FC Schalke 04 open an office in Shanghai

Philipp Rütgers is the Managing Director of Schalke 04 (Shanghai) Sports Consulting Ltd. He recently worked in Bayern München’s Shanghai office as Head of Partnerships. With the office, Schalke are pursuing the goal of further expanding and consolidating their presence in China, as well as strengthening the contact with the local Schalke fans.

“We are excited that we could open our own headquarters in Shanghai. In this country, where football is rapidly growing, we want to further strengthen our position. Through our presence in the market, we now have the opportunity to further grow and improve our contact with the fans and to deepen our partnerships with sponsors and media representatives,” said Schalke’s Marketing Director, Alexander Jobst.

Already in 2015, Schalke began their activities in China. Ten coaches from the Schalke football school travelled to Beijing and Kunshan and held football camps for talented youngsters. In 2016, Schalke 04 travelled to China during the summer and since then, have travelled every summer, playing friendlies, meeting fans as well as sponsors and partners.

Some time ago, Schalke 04, the provincial government of Kunshan and Chinese Super League Club Hebei Fortune FC all came to an agreement to support young talent in Chinese football. In addition to this, every year, elite teams from China and coaches visit Schalke.
