Schalke Quest: Royal Blues publish an augmented reality app

The new augmented reality app from Schalke 04 offers users lots of interaction opportunities, including users being able to discover their local region, answering questions on the club’s history or founding a virtual fan club. Schalke Quest is available now on all iOS and Android devices.

The development duo from ForwardGameAR first caught Schalke’s attention at the LeAD Accelerator programme in 2017. The support programme offers start-ups the chance to network with companies from the sporting world, as well as to get to know tech experts. One start-up in particular impressed: the development duo from ForwardGameAR. The young pro-active businessmen impressed Schalke during discussions after the programme. The idea to found Schalke Quest was born from the original wish of wanting to improve the stadium experience for the Schalke fans. A global project was then developed, resulting in an interactive augmented reality app, which will provide a new virtual experience for Schalke fans around the world, as well improve the experiences for the fans in the stadium.

“We are constantly working on improving our fans’ experiences around the world. Therefore we are now pleased to announce our new app, Schalke Quest. Working with ForwardGameAR has proven to be a great success. We recognised the talent they have in their development team and are happy to have found a partner who is passionate about the project too. The consumer’s behavior is constantly changing in our digital society. In order to react to that, we decided to develop something for our fans with ForwardGameAR. Schalke Quest is a fine example that tradition and innovation are at their strongest when they are working alongside each other,” said Alexander Jobst, marketing director at Schalke 04.

Virtual experiences for Schalke fans around the world

The users can find virtual boxes in their immediate vicinity. These boxes contain questions on FC Schalke 04 and the club’s history. The users will then win rewards if they answer correctly – for example rare collectable cards of the first-team players.

Users can swap their cards with other fans, so that they can complete their own collections. The fans can then exchange items in their virtual fan clubs too. Two players can also challenge each other to a duel – in order to prove who the true Schalke expert is. In other augmented reality games, speed and co-ordination is often tested, whereas here knowledge of the greatest club in the world is the key thing required.
