Nastasic books his World Cup ticket but Konoplyanka won’t feature

Matija Nastasic and the Serbia national team will be taking part in the World Cup in Russia. Yevhen Konoplyanka, on the other hand, will have to make other plans with his summer. The same applies to Guido Burgstaller as Austria were already knocked out before this round of international fixtures.

Serbia get a narrow win

By winning Group D, Serbia have ensured their place at the 2018 World Cup. In the 1-0 win against Georgia, Matija Nastasic did not feature in the final qualification fixture. Serbia will be at their first major tournament since 2010.

Konoplyanka misses out on World Cup dream

In the deciding game for second place in Group I, Ukraine took on Croatia. Yevhen Konoplyanka played the full match and had his team’s best chance as he missed a header to put the Ukraine into the lead. Konoplyanka was his team’s most threatening player going forward but was unable to stop his team losing 2-0 courtesy of a Andrej Kramaric brace for Croatia.

Donis Avdijaj did not feature as Kosovo lost in Group I to Iceland to finish qualifying without a win.

Burgstaller plays 45 minutes

Before kick-off in Austria’s final game against Moldova, Austria already knew they had no chance to qualify for the World Cup. With Guido Burgstaller in the starting XI, Austria won 1-0 with Burgstaller replaced at half-time. Louis Schaub scored the only goal of the game as Austria finished the group in fourth place.
