Kutucu in talks with another club, Sané leaves Mittersill

Due to a thigh problem, Ahmed Kutucu didn’t travel with the rest of the squad to the training camp in Austria, instead completing an individual programme back in Gelsenkirchen. There is no plan for him to make the journey down south now, as the 21-year-old is now discussing his future with the club.

Royal Blues arrive in Mittersill with 27 players

FC Schalke 04 safely arrived at their training camp in Mittersill on Tuesday (29/6). 27 players made the journey from Düsseldorf airport down to Austria for the 12-day training camp in the Nationalpark Hohe Tauern. This is the fifth time that S04 will spend time in the summer at this location.

In compliance with the relevant hygiene procedures, FC Schalke 04 are introducing all necessary protocols to protect against further infections, after a member of the playing staff tested positive for Covid-19. “Our team doctor and hygiene officer Dr. Patrick Ingelfinger is in contact with the relevant public health officer and other officials,” says Jochen Schneider.

In Längenfeld, training takes place on two pitches. While Schalke’s outfield players have been working on fitness, athleticism and game drills on one pitch, the three goalkeepers have been toiling away together with Simon Henzler on the other.

First training session in Längenfeld – Schöpfi returns 'home'

The first training session during the training camp has been completed. FC Schalke 04 trained for just over 90 minutes on Friday evening (21/8) at SV Längenfeld’s pitch, which is close to the team hotel the Aqua Dome. The trip to Austria provides a return to Alessandro Schöpf’s former home, having spent five years at SV Längenfeld.

Hard work in Tirol: 28 players travel to Längenfeld

The Royal Blues are starting the second stage of preparations ahead of a demanding 2020/21 season. Head coach David Wagner’s side travel to Längenfeld on Friday (21/8). The squad will take part in their second and final training camp in Austria until 29th August, before the new season gets underway in the middle of September with the first round of the DFB-Pokal.

David Wagner: I liked our intensity

David Wagner is pleased about how the training camp in Herzlake is going, including the team’s performance in the first friendly of the season against VfL Osnabrück. “During this first week we have managed to put into practice everything that we discussed beforehand,” said the head coach. As the camp comes to an end, the players have had to continue to push themselves as far as possible. “The final session with Werner Leuthard was once again very tough,” said the 48 year old.

Day four in Herzlake: Pushing the limits one more time

On Monday (August 10th), the squad worked up a sweat to end the short training camp in Herzlake. The training plan for the day simply told the players to bring their running trainers. Schalke’s new head of performance, Werner Leuthard, had marked out a 500m course to be completed in small groups. Players ran the course ten times each, and always at a high intensity.
