Soichiro Kozuki: I’m excited to see my father’s reaction

His first professional contract, his Bundesliga debut, his first goal in the top flight – and then... a long spell out due to injury. It’s been an emotional few months for Soichiro Kozuki, but he’s back to work, playing 45 minutes in each of our two friendlies so far in pre-season. Speaking to schalke04.de, the 22-year-old winger discussed his current fitness levels, the step up to the first team, his new shirt number and his family.

Thomas Reis: The fans have carried on where they left off last season

Loud rounds of applause greeted the Royal Blues on Saturday, as the fans welcomed them to the start of their first day at the training camp in Mittersill. Following the opening session, which started in bright sunshine and ended in the rain, head coach Thomas Reis spoke to the media about the upcoming week at the Hohe Tauern National Park and Holiday Region, the travelling support, possible new signings and goals for the season.

28 players travel to training camp in Mittersill

FC Schalke 04 are once again hosting their pre-season training camp in Mittersill, Austria. For the seventh time, the Royal Blues will head to the Hohe Tauern National Park, where they will spend the next eight days preparing for the 2023/24 season. A total of 28 players have travelled to training camp.

Reis: I saw a lot of things that we worked on in training

Schalke were 60 seconds away from picking up a win in a friendly against FC Zürich on Saturday (07/01). However, due to a penalty to the Swiss team in the 89th minute the first fixture during the training camp in Belek ended in a 2-2 draw. Thomas Reis’ verdict is mixed.

A reunion for Cedric Brunner

Schalke right-back Cedric Brunner will come up against his former club FC Zürich in a friendly on Saturday (7/1). The 28-year-old began playing for the club when he was just 12 years old, before leaving in 2018. “I spent my entire youth there, began my career as a professional and had a great time there,” he said. In Belek, he will now look forward to being reunited with several familiar faces.
